Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Texas, our MWGM The Honorable Wilbert M. Curtis, Prince Hall Charitable Foundation, Texas PHAmily and to all who made this trip possible for our Youth Knights, Sir Knights, and Parents who traveled with us. We also thank our KOP PHAmily for coming together for this event. Lets continue to do big things for our youth. Our vision is to engage, train, and empower the next generation of leaders.
Youth leadership has been elaborated upon as a theory of youth development in which young people gain skills and knowledge necessary to lead civic engagement, education reform and community organizing activities. Countless programs around the world seek to teach young people particular skills associated with leadership, particularly those programs associate with youth voice or youth empowerment.
Youth empowerment is a process where children and young people are encouraged to take charge of their lives. They do this by addressing their situation and then take action in order to improve their access to resources and transform their consciousness through their beliefs, values, and attitudes. Youth empowerment aims to improve quality of life. Youth empowerment is achieved through participation in youth empowerment programs. However scholars argue that children’s rights implementation should go beyond learning about formal rights and procedures to give birth to a concrete experience of rights.
In July of 2019 the Texas KOP PHAmily representing the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Texas and our Most Worshipful Grand Master, the Honorable Wilbert Curtis traveled to Georgia for their 2019 Young Men's Empowerment (Y-Me) 'I AM THE CHANGE" Leadership Conferences. Charter buses departed form Houston, Killeen, and Dallas area. We had 90 young men and 36 Master Masons joining Georgia, Virginia, District of Columbia, and New York KOP programs.
